Background

Uganda Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society (UDPAS) is a voluntary non- profit organization.
It was formed in response to the United Nation minimal rules for the treatment of offenders in 1974. It is a charitable organization based on humanitarian ground and registered with NGO board. It was formed to contribute to the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders on release.
Its main objective is to help children of prisoners on long sentence or death low and children of poor released prisoners who served long years in prison to get education.

    Successful social rehabilitation and social re-integration of ex-offenders into the local community as useful and law abiding citizens

    A community or society without or with minimum number of crime repeaters-recidivists

    Full rehabilitation, re-integration and resettlement of prisoners and ex-prisoners back in society as useful and law abiding citizens

Our Objectives

1. To assist prisoner’s and ex-prisoners to be successfully reintegrated so that they can contribute to the social and economic development of the country and be law abiding citizens.
2. To try as much as possible to change the negative attitudes towards prisoners and ex-prisoners.
3. To involve all social actors/stakeholders in the social rehabilitation process.
